Information About Kāʻanapali
With three miles of pristine white sand and crystal-clear water, it’s easy to see why Kāʻanapali Beach was once named America’s Best Beach. Once a retreat for Maui’s royalty, this stunning coastline now welcomes visitors from around the world seeking both relaxation and adventure.
Kāʻanapali was Hawaiʻi’s first planned resort destination and has since become a model for resort communities worldwide. Today, a collection of luxury hotels and condominium villages line the shoreline, offering direct access to this iconic beach. At the heart of it all is Whalers Village, an open-air shopping and dining destination featuring upscale boutiques, oceanfront restaurants, a whaling museum, and complimentary Hawaiian entertainment.
Golf enthusiasts can enjoy two championship courses—Royal Kāʻanapali and Kāʻanapali Kai—where lush fairways meet sweeping ocean views. During whale season, it’s even possible to spot humpback whales breaching offshore mid-round.
One of Kāʻanapali’s most beloved traditions is the daily cliff diving ceremony at Puʻu Kekaʻa, also known as Black Rock. Each evening at sunset, a diver lights the torches along the cliff before leaping into the ocean below, reenacting a legendary feat by Maui’s revered King Kahekili. For a different perspective, visitors can also take to the skies on a zipline tour and experience breathtaking views of the coastline from above.
Kāʻanapali is often thought of in two distinct areas, divided by Black Rock. Both sides offer beautiful beaches, but each has its own character. The southern end is home to many of the major resorts, while the northern side features a mix of quieter condominium communities and relaxed beachfront settings.
